Benefits of Leading & Managing for Impact

By the end of this program, you will have gained not only a deeper understanding of your role and responsibilities as a manager but also practical tools to prioritize tasks, set goals, delegate effectively, and coach your team with confidence. You will have learned to:

  • Leverage Your Strengths: Using the Gallup CliftonStrengthsⓇ assessment, reflect on how your top five strengths shape your approach to management. Through facilitated discussions and exercises, you’ll identify ways to leverage your strengths to enhance your leadership style and improve team dynamics.

  • Master Effective Goal Setting: Develop skills in setting SMARTIE (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals. By the end of the program, you’ll have drafted at least two actionable goals for your team.

  • Sharpen Your Prioritization Skills: Manage competing demands better. Learn how to prioritize tasks effectively in the fast-paced nonprofit environment. Participants will complete a workload prioritization exercise and develop a customized prioritization-focused action plan.

  • Strengthen Your Delegation and Feedback Skills: Discover practical strategies for delegating work across the full delegation cycle and practice them in a supportive environment. You’ll also learn frameworks for providing constructive feedback and participate in role-playing scenarios to sharpen your communication skills.

  • Build Coaching Skills: Through active listening and deep questioning techniques, participants will practice coaching using structured models, including role-playing exercises where they’ll apply at least three key steps from a coaching framework.

  • Gain Greater Confidence as a Manager: Gain clarity on your key responsibilities as a manager, and explore how to apply these insights within your organization. You’ll define what success means to you as a leader and set actionable professional development goals to continue your growth beyond the program.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many people will be part of this program?

We are designing for a group of no more than 20 participants.

How do I know if I am accepted and registered?

All candidates will be contacted by June 16, 2025 to be notified of their status. Those who are accepted into the program will be provided with a link to CRE’s Participant Agreement Form. Once this form is completed, confirmed participants will be provided with confirmation and logistical information.

Should I expect any materials or homework before the start of the program?

All confirmed participants will receive an invitation and instructions to complete the Gallup Strengths Finder assessment, to be completed prior to the first session. Once you create your account and log-in, the assessment takes approximately 30-40 minutes to complete.

What if I need to miss a session or will be late?

We believe that your complete engagement in the program creates the most valuable experience—not just for you, but for all participants in your cohort. The interconnected nature of our workshops means that each session builds upon previous learnings and contributions.

We kindly ask that you commit to attending all sessions in their entirety. Your consistent presence enriches group discussions, strengthens relationship-building opportunities, and ensures you receive the full benefit of the program.

Of course, we understand that unexpected circumstances can arise. If you anticipate missing any portion of a session or encounter a last-minute conflict, please reach out to your facilitators via email as soon as possible.

Can I join virtually if something comes up?

Unfortunately, no. This program is designed for in-person participation.

How does payment work?

When accepted into the program, participants will be provided with an invoice amount that is aligned with CRE’s equity-based pricing. Payment may be made through a secure credit card link, ACH electronic payment or check and are due two weeks after the invoice date. If your organization is unable to pay in-full two weeks after the invoice due date, please contact Jennifer Benstraum at JBenstraum[at]crenyc.org to review your options.

What’s the difference between High Performing Managers Initiative and Leading and Managing for Impact, and which one is right for me?

Leading & Managing for Impact is best for managers looking to build foundational management skills like goal setting, delegation, and coaching.

High Performing Managers Initiative (HPMI) is ideal for mid-level managers who want to refine their leadership approach, navigate team dynamics, and tackle complex challenges.

If you're early in your management journey, choose Leading & Managing for Impact. If you're more experienced and want to take your leadership to the next level, HPMI is for you.
