Building effective leaders is at the heart of what we do at CRE. We strengthen the leadership capabilities of established and emerging nonprofit leaders through peer-based learning, customized training, and executive coaching. Because most people learn best by doing, we use adult learning theories in all of our leadership development, training, and coaching activities.

Leadership Development - CRE

Leadership and Management Training
CRE’s peer-learning approach includes topic-specific discussions, small-team action learning to support organizational change initiatives, 360º feedback to increase self-awareness, practical role plays, and case discussions.
Key programs include:
Leadership caucus: Our flagship, seven-month leadership development program aims to help early-career executive directors and senior leaders strengthen their leadership skills, gain a better understanding of how decisions may impact their organization, and discuss management issues in an open and supportive environment. Partially DYCD funded.
High performing managers initiative: The HPMI is a seven-month program that provides middle managers and emerging leaders with the space to learn new management techniques while problem solving shared challenges with their peers. Partially DYCD funded.
New managers institute: Targeted at new front-line supervisors, this seven-month program provides the opportunity for those new to management to gain skills that will help them effectively supervise and oversee staff. DYCD funded.
CRE leadership academy: The CLA builds on the programs described above by bringing together up to 25 organizations that nominate managers at three levels (senior, middle, and new) to attend this eight-month program. The CLA model gives organizations the opportunity to make a substantial investment in a select group of leaders, as well as leverage learning across all management levels to ensure greater dividends for participating agencies.
Customized Training
CRE training programs help organizations focus on nonprofit management essentials, including human resource management, fiscal management, financial planning, supervision, team building, and team communications.
Our customized trainings are offered through a range of modalities like workshops and issue discussions, action learning, one-to-one coaching and organizational capacity building.
Executive Coaching
CRE offers customized one-to-one coaching for nonprofit executives, managers, and board members.
Participants are paired with a seasoned coach, who supports the coachee in leveraging his/her strengths and identifying barriers to improved performance, developing key learning and professional development goals, and creating the best path to accomplish these goals. Our coaching work is typically informed by a 360º feedback survey or other appropriate assessment tools.
